Voice Over IP (VOIP)

Voice over broadband (SIP Trunking) is the latest technology revolutionising the way we make and receive telephone calls. Calls are literally sent over your internet connection. And because they use the internet we don't have to pay other phone networks so we can pass the savings on to you.

SIP provided an open programming protocol for voice, text and video applications. All devices, client PC/Laptop, PDA's and in the future smart phones, are or will be a multiple application device capable of using and receiving the 3 main applications Text, Voice and Video SIP is the back ground programming protocol which will allow the mixed media sessions.

Microsoft instance messaging and the G3 GSM network are both based on SIP. At the residential end of the market companies such as Skype have had 100 million down loads of their software; millions of people are making free calls between friends and family over the internet all over the world.

SIP trunking is the commercial version of the residential product, which is far more resilient and will interconnect with the present voice networks worldwide. SIP trunking has only been possible since the mass take up of broadband The implementation of Broadband has been massive; it's not long since we used an analogue dial up connection with a maximum speed of 56Kbits per second. Many companies then moved connections to ISDN with a guaranteed speed of 64 or 128Kbits per second still on a dial up connection.

The entry level Broadband connection for most companies is now 1000Kbits per second (1MB). With companies enjoying speeds of 10,000Kbits per second (10 MB) which is 178 times faster than a 56Kbit dial up connection and probably more cost effective to run as it's a fixed monthly price.

With the massive uptake of Broadband and ever increasing speeds with reducing costs, more services are being and will be delivered via a broadband connection; voice is just one of the additional services to be offered.

There are a number of incentives to switch to SIP trunking the main one being cost as more companies start using the service more calls between your customers and suppliers worldwide will be free of charge.

  • Line rentals for SIP Trunks are on average 60% cheaper than a standard BT analogue or ISDN connection
  • Call costs to non-SIP trunk companies are more cost-effective
  • There is a greater amount of flexibility if you are moving from London to Birmingham - you can take your telephone number with you
  • SIP trunking has the full backing of Ofcom (the telecommunications governing body) which has allowed more flexibility compared to the present voice network
